replacing fittings on water heater?

our water heater is slowly leaking from the top fittings. We got all new parts to replace them and have drained alot of water withour hose. We are still getting water coming out when we loosen the fittings. We had the main water to the heater turned off. Do we have to drain the whole tank.? It is quiet a bit of water coming out when we loosen the fitting.

This is my 6 and a half year old, top of the line water heater from Bradford White. It was professionally installed in my new custom home on city water. It is now leaking and Bradford White wants nothing to do with me and my problem. Although they said they are built to last 15 years and they have some that go 40 or more years, they are not interested in addressing this one that only lasted 6.5 years. Their warranty is convieniently 6 years and they stick to that to the day.
